tutorial superhero cape

This is a staple in the play at my house. The superhero cape. I have finally sat down to write this for all whom have played with them at our house. They also can be easily used as an long apron too.

Start with 2 half yard pieces of fabric.  Lay one on top of the other (fully unfolded) and secure, you'll be cutting both pieces of the cape at the same time.

Measure a half yard length of ribbon or string and tie a marker or chalk to end. Keep the  non-tied end in your fingers at the middle top of the fabric, this will help you trace a smooth half circle on the fabric. Start with maker at the bottom middle of the fabric and keeping the ribbon/string tight trace 1/4 circle return to the middle and trace the other 1/4.

I use pinking shears to cut to not have to go back and notch out the fabric. Sew wrong sides together all the way around.

Fold in half, cut 1/4 circle on straight edge fold for neck hole. I use a can lid for pattern. Turn cape right side out and stitch around all edges.

Cut 2 yards of ribbon, I use 2 inch wide ribbon. Mark the middle of ribbon and cape neckline, line up marks and fold ribbon over.  Pin and stitch the ribbon along the neckline.

The finished cape waiting a superhero.
